Redstone Hearing January 31, 2007

by North 5 Mile Website Administrator last modified 2007-02-11 05:44

TO ALL FOREST HILLS HOMEOWNERS AND N. FIVE MILE RESIDENTS

The public hearing for the Redstone Development has been set for Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. at the County Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway. The hearing room is located on the lower level.

This may be news to many of you as it was to me. It appears that only those residents living within 400 feet of the project legally have to be notified which means that many of us were not afforded the courtesy of notification even though we wrote letters, attended meetings, made phone calls, added our names and addresses to lists and thus expressed our grave concerns about this project.

This lack of common courtesy gives us very short notice to prepare for the hearing. Public hearings are about our only chance for significant input into the records before the County Hearing Examiner makes his decision on whether the developer's project proceeds as proposed. His decision is often influenced by attendance and the amount of concern shown by affected residents.

SAFETY is the No. 1 concern here. The proposed Redstone access point onto N. Five Mile Rd. is totally and absolutely unsafe as it is on a blind, uphill corner which cannot even meet County road standards for minimum sight distance requirements. Some of the vegetation and improvements restricting proper sight distance are on private property and cannot be removed. The developer has admitted this problem and suggests mitigating it by putting up a sign with an advisory speed limit reduction to 25 m.p.h. near the entrance. We all know this does not solve the problem and will not make this a safe access.
Redstone Development should not be allowed to establish their ingress and egress onto N. Five Mile Road at this point.

IT IS URGENT THAT EVERYONE WHO POSSIBLY CAN ATTEND THIS HEARING. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEAK AGAINST THE PROJECT, THIS WILL HELP GREATLY. EVERYONE'S SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
