Volunteer RPG Player Archetype II Trainee - Education Settings

This is an entry-to-mid-level volunteer position. The player archetype is responsible for filling the role of various role-playing gamer "types" in education settings. The participant takes on various Player Archetype roles to help train Game Master Educators to learn how to address such situations more effectively. Types include: disruptive student, distractable student, zoned-out student, argumentative student, student with various LDs, etc.

Reports to: Senior Education Facilitator.

General Purpose

The player archetype is responsible for filling the role of various role-playing gamer "types" in education settings. Types include: disruptive student, zone-out student, argumentative student, students with various LDs, etc.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The participant takes on various Player Archetype roles to help train Game Master Educators to learn how to address such situations more effectively.

  • Participate in at least one RPG session per week (sessions typically 3-4 hours).

  • Additionally attend either in-person or via remote access, at least one training session / administrative meeting per week (3-4 hours)
  • Document participation observations for review by supervisor.

  • Create player characters.

  • Create and manage Player Archetype Dossiers

  • Work with trainers to help challenge GME trainees

  • Report back to Trainer with regular planning progress reports.

  • Assist Game Masters and other Facilitators as needed, to optimize participants experience.

  • Also help as "go-fer" for various related tasks
  • Availability for at least 1 weekly group community session per month (game sessions typically 3-5 hours).

Education and Training

 

Required:

  • Minimum 2+ years RPG experience (tabletop and/or live action), with at least one RPG format. *

  • Minimum 1+ years professional experience in educator role

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Passionate supportive energy

  • Acting skills
  • Voice skills

 

* RPG formats include: tabletop (RPG), live-action (LARP), computer-based (CRPG), and solo adventure books and modules (SABM).

 

Preferred:

  • Education certification/training/degree
  • 5+ years in educational institution work
  • Recreation /Event management training/certification.

  • 5+ years experience organizing and running recreational events.

  • 5+ years personal experience with all 4 RPG formats.

  • Other relevant training/experience/certification

  • Some working knowledge/experience with music and music therapy

  • American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Other languages.

Working Conditions

Facilitator will frequently work at RPG Research offices or other locations including but not limited to:

  • Libraries

  • Community centers

  • Educational institutions

  • Mobile Facility, the Wheelchair Friendly RPG Trailer at various locations

Hours: Varies. Minimum 20 hours per month.

Compensation: This is an entry level volunteer position. Training is free.
